Whatta READ!!

Thanks Dad for giving me the passion for reading. I do sometimes stray when life is busy, and I won’t read as much as I like, but I always return to my love of a good book!
I have read several books recently, and now I am in the middle of a book that I absolutely LOVE by one of my favorite authors!
Sherman Alexie wrote The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. It is a young adult novel, but definitely it smacks of auto-biography given the similarities of the main character and Mr. Alexie. I just laugh and cry along with this book, and the poetic writing and credible voice touch my heart.
The main character lives on the Spokane Reservation, and attends school in both Wellpinit and Reardan (just like Sherman). He is a young Native American student who struggles to improve his life and move beyond what the reservation has to offer.
I have had the pleasure of seeing Sherman Alexie read on two different occasions. His witty charm connects with the audience in a way I have not witnessed of other authors. I like the guy!
The great news is that he will be at the Riverside Theater on April 24th at 7 p.m. for a free reading sponsored by the North Central Washington Library. I can’t wait!!
You can check out Sherman at: http://www.fallsapart.com/ . For sure, check out the biography page!
